This RFQ was for 10 and 20 Each. The estimated annual usage is 400. |
RFQ Notes:
Fabrication cutting of a rimmed steering wheel.
Approximately 16" OD x 0.1875" thick. The items are
blanks, or discs, that are used to make woor
rimmed steering wheels for classic cars. The discs are
made from flat 3/16 6061 aluminum. Each disc needs a small
ring as seen in the attached .dxf file. Please contact
the buyer if the .dxf file is not sufficient.
The wheels have been water jet before. The discs are then
sent to a polisher for a mirror finish. The buyer is open
to considering just a replacement metal cutting operation,
or a combined single source for cutting and polishing.
For those that might be interested in providing a complete
service, here are the finishing
requirements: The spoke edges must be polished in
addition to the flat surfaces. The
edges need a slight rounding. The very inner (hub) edge
does not need finishing. The
entire outer rim does not get finished and the edges, both
inner and outer remain flat and
unfinished. The aluminum sheet material does need surface
preparation prior to polishing
for acceptable results.
THIS IS ONE OF MANY styles, although all similar in
requirements and size. The buyer currently
orders 5, 10, or 20 at a time. However, sales are
increasing and the buyer is open to ordering 10
or 20 minimum at a time of each design. The buyer will
consider any cost effective alternative.
Yearly production is ~200 units , increasing to 400 or
more over the next 12 months.
Finished quality is of utmost importance. Tolerances are
not unusually tight as these
are not precision parts. The mounting screws in the hub
area must consistently line up.
All other dimensions should be reasonably accurate and
consistent.

The target price range for the material and cutting
service is $27 to 30 per unit.
Including polishing the range would be $42 to $48 per unit.
The buyer prefers only US suppliers as delivery time,
shipping cost, and import taxes would be of
concern.
Added 08/02/2005 - Please understand that the buyer has 8
such designs that are ordered
with similar frequency. The design provided with this RFQ
is representative. Designs are
increasing in number and each will represent opportunity
for supply. The buyer will
accept just cut pieces or a total package including
polishing.
