RFQ Notes:
First of all, thank you for your quotes earlier this year.
Buyer appreciates the hard work that goes into quoting and
do not take it for granted.
During the previous quote phase Buyer discovered a need to
redesign the part. During the redesign period, one bidder
from China replied with a way to make the mold much
cheaper. Buyer thought it was only fair to allow suppliers
a chance to bid with these new parameters as well.
However, Buyer can only wait until June 21, 2006 for
quote.
During the first round of quoting all bidders quoted a
single 1+1 cavity P20 mold. The company mentioned
earlier realized that Buyer's volume was relatively low
for injection molding (400 to 800 sets per year). They
were able to eliminate over $10,000 (USD) from their price
by quoting the following changes:
1. Since two smaller bases are cheaper than one large base
they suggested 2 single cavity molds. Apparently steel is
the major cost for molds in China.
2. To further lower the price they suggested 1 single
cavity mold with 2 cavity inserts and 2 core inserts to
make left and right. Since labor cost is low in China the
insert changing would add very little to the production
cost compared to saving the cost of one mold base.
3. Because of the low volume they also recommended a
medium carbon steel be used instead of P20.
If any or all of these ideas are acceptable to supplier's
engineers, please submit quote immediately. If only
some ideas are acceptable then please quote and state
which changes you can accept. New files are being sent to
for the Solid part as well as an inspection
drawing.
Please note the drawing states a left part and a mirrored
right part as well as a cut off operation to make two
completely different parts. Buyer only has a model for the
left. These 4 parts make a set consisting of LF, RF, LR
and RR. Buyer will order 175 sets at a time. Please quote
FOB supplier's dock.
