HIATEC (formerly known as FTeCH) is a non-profit contract research and training center promoting entrepreneurship, continued education and training, business creation, technology development and high
level research in the biomedical sciences and biomedical engineering. HIATEC closely interacts with industry, non for profit organizations and government offices in the offering of training programs
and business opportunities for socioeconomic development. HIATEC also serves as the bridge between industry and academic research through joint biomedical research programs with university research
centers and the South Florida biomedical industry. HIATEC, in addition, uses its strategic geographic location to promote joint research, training and business development with Latin American
countries.
HIATEC has worked and developed technology for private industry and government in various fields such as ultrasound sensor systems (flow, particle/bubble, level, position), transducer
materials research, materials characterization, flow mediated dilatation monitoring systems, acoustic output testing, noise and vibration control, ultrasonic defoaming, telemedicine stations and
networks, remote physiological monitoring and machine vision for quality control, between others. HIATEC counts with a 22000 sq. ft. facility comprising of state of the art machine shop, ultrasound
lab, machine vision lab, electronic lab, cell cultivation lab, biotechnology lab and training rooms.
The City of Hialeah established FTeCH (HIATEC) in November 1996. This partnership aimed at a
presentable synergetic model of collaboration between a research organization and a local government to achieve the economic growth of the region. The City of Hialeah, located at southernmost part of
the United States offers a great opportunity for small, mid-sized or large enterprises to gain their foothold in the Central and Latin American market. Based on the joint partnership with the City of
Hialeah, HIATEC provides South Florida industries with leading-edge training, technology development, and advanced manufacturing support services. HIATEC seeks to create supportive partnerships with
industry and be a catalyst for the industrial development in the region.
