What is cold heading?
Cold heading is rapidly producing enlarged ections on a piece
of rod or wire held in a die. The resulting shape from cold
heading is that the upset portion conforms to the shape of the
die cavity. Workpieces are not heated prior to cold heading.
Process Characteristics
With cold heading the pset portion conforms to shape of the
punch and/or die cavity
Cold heading produces finished workpieces have improved grain
structure and mechanical properties
Finished surfaces are smooth with uniform accuracy are produced
by cold heading
May process ferrous and nonferrous metals can used in cold heading
