What is Blanking Die?
Blanking dies are created to mass produce 2D shapes from metal,
rubber, plastic, wood or a number of other materials. The die
consists on a male (punch) and a female half (shoe) that are machined
to shape to be blanked, often these pats are cut using a wire
EDM machine. The die is mounted in a press and the press opens
and closes as the raw material is fed through the die. Each time
the time press cycles a part is punched in the desired 2D shape.
The blanked part may be a finished part or the resulting 2D
shape that was blanked may be ultimately processed in forming
dies to produce a 3D shape. Often time is operations such as
stamping automotive parts a set of dies is required the form
the completed part and the blanking die is the first die in
the set.
